HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball team fell short in a close competition to IUPUI, 74-69. NKU falls to 5-7 for the season (3-4 Horizon League), and IUPUI advances to 2-4 on the year (1-4 Horizon League).
STATS LEADERS
- Marques Warrick led the Norse in the scoring column with 20 and went 4-of-7 (57 percent) from behind the arc. Warrick added two rebounds and two assists as well.
- Trevon Faulkner lead NKU with nine rebounds with three being on the offensive end. Faulkner pitched in 19 points and went 7-for-9 (78 percent) from the charity strip.
- Adrian Nelson scored 11 points for the Norse, shooting 5-for-5 (100 percent) on the night.
- David Böhm also scored 11 points in the contest with two threes and a pair of rebounds.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The first two baskets for the Norse were off of offensive rebounds by Nelson and Warrick, respectively. The two boards led to a layup from Nelson and a jumper from Trey Robinson, which gave the Norse an early lead, 4-0.
- NKU and IUPUI remained neck-and-neck throughout the first half. In the first ten minutes of play IUPUI led by two points, while NKU grabbed six offensive rebounds.
- John Harding pulled down an offensive rebound to give Nelson a chance to work in the post. Nelson finished a layup with contact and caused an and-one attempt at the 8:51 mark. Nelson's free-throw was good, giving the Norse the lead 16-15.
- Both teams scored five points each in less than a minute of play after that. During the scoring frenzy, Bryson Langdon dished out a pair of assists.
- The scoring slowed down toward the end of the half with each team only scoring four points in four minutes of play. Böhm ended the scoring drought with a three, which put the Norse back in the lead.
- Going into the break, NKU held the 30-28 advantage with it being close throughout the first half with six lead changes. Faulkner led the Norse with eight points and five rebounds.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Warrick started off the second half with three buckets, helping the Norse keep the lead, 38-35.
- At the 14:02 mark, Faulkner drove to the basket and converted the and-one, giving the Norse the lead, 41-40.
- Warrick stayed on fire throughout the half with back-to-back threes. The triples were followed by a jumper from Robinson, keeping the Norse within one point of the Jaguars at the 9:47 mark.
- Böhm scored seven points in a little over two minutes with two baskets off an offensive rebound and a three, tying the game at 59.
- With three minutes left to play, Robinson grabbed an offensive rebound off a missed free throw. Robinson's rebound led to an and-one by Faulkner, putting the Norse up 67-64.
- To conclude the game, IUPUI went on a 10-2 run.
GAME NOTES
- This is Warrick's fourth 20-point performance on the year, with all of them coming in the last five games. In that span, he is averaging 19.2 points a contest.
- Faulkner's nine rebounds are a new career high. He had eight in three different contests over the last two seasons.
- Four Norse reached double figures for the third time of the year.
- NKU shot over the 50 percent threshold (27-for-53, 50.9 percent) for just the third time this season.
