Highland Heights, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's men's tennis hits the road for its first match of the season. The Norse take on Bellarmine University on Friday, Jan. 29, scheduled for a 2 p.m. start in Louisville.
Before the season was cut short on March 11, 2019, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Norse were 6-6 in non-conference play. Six Norse return from last year, as well as welcoming two freshman:
Trevor Ball from Westerville, Ohio, and Alexandria, Kentucky native
Anderson McDowell. The team returns are sophomores
Emilien Burnel and
Brandon Ponomarew along with seniors
Nick Elleman,
Felipe Hidalgo and
Jorge Rodriguez Agudo. Redshirt senior
Andrew Niehaus returns after gaining another year of eligibility due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bellarmine has started off its season 0-2, after competing against Mississippi State (Jan. 15) and the University of Memphis (Jan. 17). Both matches were 0-7. Before the Knights compete against the Norse this Friday, they take on the University of Kentucky at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 27. The last matchup between the Norse and Knights was Feb. 29, 2020, with the Norse picking up the win with a 6-1 final score.
