NKU’s Sam Vinson makes it two in a row, named #HLMBB Freshman of the Week

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – For the second time in as many weeks, Northern Kentucky's Sam Vinson has been named the Nike® Horizon League Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week.

Vinson continued to impact contests in all facets for Northern Kentucky, averaging 10.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.5 steals per game and made all nine free throws in meetings with Western Illinois and at DePaul. Opening the week against the Leathernecks, Vinson contributed 11 points, six rebounds, three assists, four steals and a block. He then finished things off at the Blue Demons with 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.

The Fort Thomas, Kentucky, native is now averaging 8.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, 4.0 assists, 1.00 blocks and 2.20 steals per game. His averages in steals, assists and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.7) rank fourth, fifth and sixth in the Horizon League, respectively.

Vinson picked up the honor a week ago as well following a 17-point showing in Northern Kentucky's win over Eastern Michigan.

NKU opens Horizon League play at Cleveland State on Thursday, Dec. 2.
