ST. LOUIS – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team posted a strong road win over Saint Louis Saturday night by a final score of 80-69. The Norse improve to 7-3 overall this season, while the Billikens drop to 3-7.
STATS LEADERS
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The Norse shot out of the gate in this nonconference tilt, posting a 9-0 scoring run through the opening four minutes of action.
- Saint Louis ended the opening quarter with a 7-0 scoring run to tie up the game at 16-16.
- NKU battled to keep a stronghold on their lead midway through the second quarter, posting a 6-0 run over 1:18 minutes for the 32-26 advantage.
- Duvall dominated the second quarter with 10 points, shooting 4-for-6 from the field and 2-for-2 from beyond the arc.
- The Norse posted 18 points in the paint in the opening half, as NKU saw plenty of high percentage shots fall.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Duvall continued to keep up her hot shooting up from the first half, hitting a three at 9:29 to open the third quarter to see NKU up 40-37.
- NKU generated a 6-0 run over nearly two minutes to push the Norse lead out to 49-41.
- Turner drained a mid-range jumper with just seconds left in the third quarter to give NKU the lead at 55-47.
- Garcia connected on a three-pointer with 6:30 remaining in the fourth period to give the Norse its largest lead of the night at 60-49.
- SLU was able to create a 7-0 scoring run late in the final quarter, cutting the Northern Kentucky advantage to 66-63.
- Garcia came up big once again with just 0:43 seconds left, knocking down yet another three to see the lead back up to 73-65.
GAME NOTES
- The Norse were nearly perfect from the free throw line tonight, shooting 25-for-27 (92.6 percent).
- Duvall posted her fifth 20-plus point game of the season this evening, finishing with 29 overall.
- Duvall's 29 points tied her career-high, which she last hit a year ago against Robert Morris on Feb. 25, 2021.
- Duvall also tied her career-high in rebounds in this game at 14. She pulled down 14 boards last season against RMU.
- Rose also contributed her third double-double this season.
- The last time five Norse players scored in double-figures was last season in a win over Oakland on Feb. 20, 2021.
UP NEXT
- Northern Kentucky will look to rest up before its next contest, as the Norse will travel down to Spartanburg, South Carolina to face Wofford in nonconference action. This matchup is scheduled for Monday, December 20 at 6 p.m. inside Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium.
