FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Northern Kentucky suffered a 71-57 setback at Purdue Fort Wayne in the second Horizon League game of the season. The loss drops NKU to 2-5 on the year and 0-2 in league play. PFW moves to 4-4 overall and 1-1 in the Horizon League.
 
STATS LEADERS
  • Trey Robinson led the Norse with 16 points behind 6-of-11 shooting.
  • Sam Vinson was the only other Norse in double-figures with 10 points. He added three assists and two steals.
  • Adrian Nelson flirted with a double-double, scoring eight points and pulling down eight boards.
TURNING POINT
  • Seven-straight PFW points early in the first half proved to be the turning point in the game as NKU was only able to pull back within five on two separate occasions.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • With the opening stanza tied at five just four minutes into the contest, PFW used a 7-0 run over a span of 3:54 to pull ahead
  • Scoring was traded back-and-forth for the next three minutes with Robinson coming alive for NKU with eight points during the alternating scores.
  • The Mastodons put together a 7-1 spurt, resulting in a Norse timeout with 4:27 on the clock and a 26-15 deficit.
  • PFW continued to push and extended its lead to 36-20.
  • Northern Kentucky had a 19-15 advantage in rebounds, including 11 on the offensive end, but 23 percent (7-of-30) shooting for the Norse resulted in the low scoring output.
  • Robinson hit five of NKU's made buckets as he had 13 points
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • After PFW jumped up 18 early in the half, NKU put together an 11-3 run to pull within 10. Nelson started it with a driving layup and Vinson scored three more layups during the surge as well.
  • The Mastodons regrouped and extended their lead back to as many 17 with eight minutes remaining.
  • NKU's shooting improved remarkebly in the second half, as the team hit 14-of-28 from the floor.
  • Vinson and Bryson Langdon both scored nine points in the stanza.
GAME NOTES
  • Northern Kentucky finished the game shooting 36 percent from the floor (21-of-58) and 33 percent (8-of-24) from long range.
  • Purdue Fort Wayne made 25-of-52 (48 percent) shots and 7-of-26 (27 percent) of its threes.
  • The Norse secured 15 offensive rebounds but were only able to convert them into nine points.
  • Robinson's 16 points are the second-highest output of his career, trailing his career-high 17 set against PFW on Jan. 2 last year.
  • NKU also received a career-high seven points from Jake Evans.
