HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team took care of business Wednesday afternoon against Kentucky State with a final score of 72-51. NKU improves to 6-3 overall this season, while the Thorobreds drops to 3-4.
STATS LEADERS
·
Carissa Garcia turned in a season-high 17 points in the winning effort, shooting 5-for-10 from the field and draining three three-pointers.
·
Lindsey Duvall was once again in double-figures with 12 points. She also added four rebounds to her stat line.
·
Ivy Turner finished the day scoring in double-digits with 10 points. Turner tied her career-high in steals today with four as well.
·
Khamari Mitchell-Steen recorded a career-high in rebounds with eight overall. She additionally contributed two assists, one steal and one block to her stat sheet.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
· Kentucky State came out swinging in the opening quarter, posting a 6-3 lead over the Norse.
· Northern Kentucky quickly correct itself as the Norse generated an 18-3 run to finish out the remaining seven minutes of the opening quarter.
· Duvall and Garcia helped ignite the NKU scoring run, scoring seven points and five points, respectively.
· The Norse increased their lead even further with an 11-0 run midway through the second quarter.
· NKU saw a total of nine different players score during the second quarter, including freshman
Paige Hodgson who hit a three with seconds remaining. This was Hodgson's first collegiate bucket as well.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
· Northern Kentucky continued to maintain a double-digit lead through the third period, with Garcia totaling seven points in the quarter.
· NKU went on an 8-1 scoring run over three minutes during the third quarter to hold a 56-34 advantage.
· The Norse continued to spread the wealth in the fourth quarter as well, with nine total players scoring.
GAME NOTES
· The Norse capitalized on Kentucky State turnovers today, totaling 25 points off Thorobred mistakes.
· NKU dominated the glass in multiple aspects from out-rebounding KSU, 49-34. Northern Kentucky controlled the game with second chance points as well, with the Norse totaling 18 compared to Kentucky State's eight.
· 14 Norse saw action on the court and 11 of them found the scoring column.

· Northern Kentucky will hit the road next as the Norse will face Saint Louis on Saturday, Dec. 11. Game time for this nonconference bout is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. (ET).
