Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

@NKUNorseMBB takes Green Bay into overtime, but falls, 86-82

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball team fell in overtime in an 86-82 decision to Green Bay on Friday night. NKU moves to 11-9 on the season and 9-6 in the Horizon League, as Green Bay advances to 7-14 overall and 7-10 in the Horizon League.

STATS LEADERS

  • Bryson Langdon led Norse scorers tonight with 22 points, matching his career-high. He went 7-of-14 (50 percent) from the floor, dished out four assists and pitched in two rebounds.
  • Marques Warrick added 16 points to the Norse cause going 6-for-11 (55 percent) from the field and 2-of-4 (50 percent) from deep range. He had two assists and a block to complete his night.
  • Adrian Nelson attained his fifth double-double on the season with a 12-point, 16-rebound performance against the Phoenix.
  • Trevon Faulkner also had a double-digit scoring night for the Norse with 11 points. He supplied four rebounds, three assists and a steal throughout the competition.

    TURNING POINT
  • The game was forced into overtime, but Green Bay claimed the lead with 22 seconds into the extra period and never relinquished it. However, the contest wasn't fully decided until Faulkner's potential game-winning 3-point attempt went off the front iron and the Phoenix secured the rebound.

    FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Green Bay tallied five points on the board before the Norse added points of their own. Langdon knocked down a three-point basket to put NKU in motion.
  • It was a back-and-forth competition until the Phoenix opened up the game to an eight-point lead, 27-19, with 7:46 remaining in the first half.
  • Langdon again came through for the Norse with two quick jumpers, the second of the two sparking an 8-0 run for NKU that would span from 6:25 to 3:46.  Faulkner hit three free throws and Langdon added a three-ball throughout the run that closed the GB lead to one, 30-29.
  • Green Bay ended the half by scoring the final four points, taking the lead into the locker room, 34-29.

    SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Nelson kept the Norse in close contention with the Phoenix to open up the second half with six-straight points of his own from 17:51 to 16:18 with GB leading 45-38 at his last bucket.
  • Green Bay managed to maintain a two-possession lead until the Norse generated another 8-0 run to cut the lead to one, 60-59, in favor of GB. Eleeda and Warrick both notched a trey in the spurt.
  • Warrick, with 5:36 to go in the game, evened up the scoreboard at 62 with a heavily contested layup.
  • Green Bay claimed a six-point lead, but that was forfeited to the Norse as Langdon, Warrick and Nelson all put points on the board to tighten the score once again at 72. A minute and two seconds remained with the game all square.
  • The Phoenix scored with under a minute remaining, going ahead 74-72, but Langdon scored the final points of regulation with 37 seconds remaining. The competition went into overtime with each team having 74 points to their name.

    OVERTIME

  • Green Bay was the first team to convert a bucket in the five extra minutes of play. NKU was never able to overcome the deficit.
  • Langdon put the Norse in a one-possession game, 84-82, with two free throws finding the bottom of the net with 40 seconds remaining, but the Norse ultimately fell by four points.

    GAME NOTES
  • Langdon's 22-point performance ties his career-high, which was coincidentally first notched against Green Bay on Jan. 31, 2020, in the Kress Center.
  • Nelson's double-double marks his fifth on the year. His first three games of the season featured a point-rebound combo of double-doubles and he finds another consecutive streak of the duo in his last two outings.
  • This is the third time this year the Norse have found themselves in an overtime battle. The Norse were 1-1 coming into tonight's game in overtime decisions.
  • The 86 points Green Bay converted marks the most allowed by the Norse defense in League competition this year.
