Wright State stifles @NKUNorseWBB comeback, 66-50

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell to Wright State, 66-50, on Friday afternoon at BB&T Arena. The Norse are now 6-8 overall and 6-3 in conference play, while Wright State moves to 14-5 on the year and 14-3 in the Horizon League.
 
STATS LEADERS 
  • Lindsey Duvall led the Norse with 16 points and six rebounds on the afternoon through 7-for-17 (41 percent) shooting.
  • Ivy Turner was the other Norse in double figures, adding 11 points to the cause.
  • Kailey Coffey had a team-high seven rebounds to go along with five points.
TURNING POINT
  • The Norse were on a comeback with a 14-1 run in the fourth quarter, but Wright State put an end to the game with an 11-0 run.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • After an 8-0 run to start for Wright State, NKU landed some points on the scoreboard thanks to a layup and a jumper from Turner at the 6:07 and 5:55 marks, respectively.
  • Although Wright State followed with a three, Duvall hit a jumper on the next Norse possession to keep it a five-point deficit for NKU.
  • After another small scoring lull, the Norse offense turned on the gas, outscoring the Raiders 9-4 to end the first quarter trailing, 20-15.
  • Back-to-back shots poured in for the Raiders to begin the second quarter before Coffey dished to Turner for a much-needed three-pointer.
  • Coffey sank a jumper from down low to make it a two-possession game again with 6:10 left in the half.
  • Turner had the final field goal of the half with a last-second mid-ranger, but Wright State closed out the first 20-minutes with an 11-4 run.
  • NKU trailed, 37-24, going into the break. The Norse shot 39 percent (10-for-26) in the first half, but the Raiders blazed through at a 52-percent (15-for-29) rate.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Wright State began the new half with another 11-4 run. Duvall and Ellie Taylor each made shots in that span as NKU trailed, 48-28, at the 5:18 mark in the third.
  • Palmer broke up the run with a layup through a Taylor assist. A possession later, Palmer went to the line and hit both of her free throws.
  • Two freebies from the charity stripe went in for Coffey and a layup by Irvin kept the Norse hopes alive to end the third with NKU trailing, 49-36.
  • Duvall extended run, hammering in an and-one and drilling a shot from deep as NKU entered the final quarter. The Norse were on a 14-1 run with 8:49 left.
  • The Raiders and Norse traded baskets until the 5:07 mark.
  • Wright State tallied an 11-0 run to put the game out of reach between the 4:30 and 1:53 marks.
  • Taylor generated her second assist of the afternoon by finding Igo for a jumper with 50-seconds left.
GAME NOTES
  • With 105 games started in her career, Coffey ties Melissa Wood for 11th all-time in the Norse record books.
  • Palmer's four points ties her career-high against Purdue Fort Wayne on December 20 earlier this season.
  • Every Norse that saw action scored in today's contest.
