Milwaukee, Wisc. – Northern Kentucky men's basketball team has won six-straight games after sweeping a pair against the Panthers of Milwaukee following Saturday's 79-65 win. The Norse move to 11-8 on the season (9-5 Horizon League) as the Panthers shift to 7-8 overall (6-7 Horizon League).
STATS LEADERS
- Adrian Nelson dropped his fourth double-double on the year with 17 points and 14 rebounds. The junior was nearly perfect in every scoring effort, shooting 7-of-8 (88 percent) from the floor and 3-of-4 (75 percent) from the free throw line. He added three assists.
- Trevon Faulkner led all scorers with 21 points and finished with five rebounds.
- Marques Warrick also found himself in double-digits with 16 points going 4-of-9 (44 percent) from the floor. The freshman added three rebounds and an assist on his performance.
- Trey Robinson shot a whopping 71 percent from the field and was 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, leading to 14 points in the scoring column.
TURNING POINT
- Milwaukee tightened the game to one-possession coming out of the halftime break, but a dunk by Nelson with 17:25 on the clock gave the Norse a five-point lead that would never be broken.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The ball was zipped around early in the first half as the Norse had four assists on six made baskets through the 11:36 mark.
- The Norse found themselves with the largest lead of the half claimed by either team as the scoreboard read 27-21 at the 6:57 mark.
- Milwaukee cut the Northern Kentucky lead to one with 3:45 remaining in the half, but NKU responded with Warrick and Faulkner layups to reclaim a five-point lead.
- Faulkner led all scorers with 17 points on 5-of-8 (63 percent) shooting from the floor. He drilled home his last three attempt in the half to boost the Norse to a 39-34 lead headed to the locker room.
- NKU and Milwaukee continued an impressive display of shooting from last night by shooting 45 percent and 44 percent, respectively.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Nelson started the second half strong and notched an early double-double with 17:25 remaining in the game. He had 10 points and 10 rebounds at that point.
- NKU pulled out to a double-digit lead with 7:55 left in the game, thanks to a Robinson three ball.
- With 5:45 remaining, Faulkner went to the charity stripe and converted both to give the Norse a 68-57 advantage. Milwaukee fired back with a jumper to cut the margin to single-digits, but Nelson's layup that followed allowed the Norse a double-digit advantage for the remainder of the game.
- NKU shot a stout 80 percent from the free-throw line in the second stanza, converting 12-of-15 attempts to help outscore Milwaukee, 40-31.
GAME NOTES
- Northern Kentucky shot 27-of-56 (48 percent) from the floor.
- NKU finished with their largest rebound margin of the year after outrebounding the Panthers by 16, 38-22.
- Nelson has had a colossal performance over his last 10 games shooting at a 91 percent rate on 41-of-45 attempts. Against Milwaukee, he shot at a 92 percent clip (12-of-13) over the two-game span.
- The Norse have now won six-straight games. This gives them their longest win streak since the 2018-19 season.
