@NKUNorseWBB push Phoenix down the stretch, but falls, 62-58

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky women's basketball fell to Green Bay, 62-58, on Saturday afternoon at BB&T Arena. The Norse are now 6-7 overall and 6-2 in conference play, while Green Bay moves to 11-6 on the year and 10-4 in the Horizon League.

STATS LEADERS
  • Lindsey Duvall led the way with a 19-point, 11-rebound double-double. She shot 8-for-18 (44 percent) on the day.
  • Kailey Coffey made it two Norse with double-doubles, compiling 15 points and 10 rebounds. She shot efficiently from the floor (4-for-6, 67 percent) and from the charity stripe (7-for-9, 78 percent).
  • Carissa Garcia was the third Norse in double-figures, putting up 11 on the scoreboard. She also had four rebounds and three assists.
  • Grayson Rose had 9 rebounds to go along with five points.

TURNING POINT
  • Green Bay had a span of seven-unanswered points in the fourth quarter that stretched the Phoenix lead just far enough to keep NKU from pulling off a comeback.

FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Rose started things off for NKU with a jumper from the right-elbow.
  • Duvall followed with three-pointers at both the 8:29 and 6:19 marks in the first.
  • Despite the early success for the Norse, Green Bay went on an 11-3 run outside of the Duvall triple. Coffey ended the run when she flew a pass over to Turner, who shot another three-pointer.
  • Two-straight jump-shots from Duvall closed the quarter as NKU trailed, 18-15. In just 10 minutes, Duvall had 10 points and four rebounds.
  • Duvall's performance continued at the beginning of the second quarter with a couple more jumpers with 9:12 and 8:10 left in the half, respectively. Sandwiched between the two shots was a Turner and-one that gave the Norse the lead.
  • Four three-pointers sank for Green Bay in the second quarter, but two Garcia triples gave NKU a one-point edge at the half.
  • The Norse led, 33-32, going into the break despite Green Bay having better shooting marks overall (11-for-24, 46 percent) and from beyond the arc (7-for-12, 58 percent).

SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • A pair of shots went in for Green Bay at the start of the half, but another Garcia three tied things back up at 36 apiece.
  • Each team traded blows, as the Norse and the Phoenix were tied again at 41 after a hard-fought Coffey layup with 3:04 to go in the third.
  • The Phoenix took a four-point lead with a couple shots, but Rose kept NKU a point behind with an and-one basket to finish out the third quarter.
  • Seven-unanswered points in the final quarter gave Green Bay a 52-46 lead with 5:55 left in the game. In a little under two minutes, the Norse rallied back to a point behind the Phoenix with a shot from Duvall and two free-throws by Coffey.
  • Two more Green Bay layups stretched the Phoenix lead back to 56-51 with 2:02 left.
  • NKU brought it back to a three-point deficit with a Coffey layup and a Duvall free throw, but the Norse were unable to force a turnover and score again for the win.

GAME NOTES
  • Duvall's 16 first-half points are the most since Ally Niece also had 16 in the first half against Milwaukee on March 5, 2020.
  • The last time NKU had two players record double-doubles in the same game was on January 7, 2017 versus Youngstown State.
  • Duvall's double-double is her fifth the season and the second time this season she had one in back-to-back games. She had 18 points and 11 rebounds on Friday.
  • Coffey's double-double is the seventh of her career and the second of this season.
