YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Northern Kentucky volleyball continues its hot stretch as it is now on a three-game win streak after defeating Youngstown State in straight sets (25-19, 25-16, 25-18) Tuesday night. Youngstown State falls to 2-6 (2-6 Horizon League) and Northern Kentucky improves to 6-3 overall and 5-3 in Horizon League action.
STAT LEADERS
FIRST SET SUMMARY
- Despite the Norse scoring first off a kill from Bagwell, the Penguins were able to pull out to a 6-3 lead. Northern Kentucky rallied for five-straight points to take over the lead.
- Not to be outdone, the Norse went on short bursts with Anna Burke and Siefke at the service line to extend the Norse lead to 14-8.
- A service error that made it 20-15 in favor of the Norse, forced the Penguins to call timeout.
- A block from Bagwell and Briggs gave the first set to Northern Kentucky.
- Bagwell and Brinkmann had four kills each in the set.
SECOND SET SUMMARY
- The Norse again scored first, this time on a kill by Brinkmann.
- After falling down, 2-1, NKU regained the lead and led the rest of the way.
- YSU was able to pull within two at 14-12, by Briggs racked up consecutive kills to ignite an 11-4 run to close the set, 25-16.
- The Penguins were limited to just .030 hitting in the set, while NKU terminated at a .200 clip
THIRD SET SUMMARY
- Northern Kentucky ran out to a quick 4-0 lead, but a plucky Youngstown State squad pulled even at both 13-13 and 14-14.
- NKU used a 6-2 spurt to regain control and Bagwell ended the set and match, 25-18, with a kill.
- Wucherer heated up in the third set, reeling off five kills on 10 attempts, while Bagwell added three.
MATCH NOTES
- Northern Kentucky's attack was balanced, with all six Norse the registered kills in the match recording between 5-8 each.
- NKU has now won six of its last seven matches.
- Over the two matches against the Penguins, the Norse held them to a combined .036 hitting percentage.

Northern Kentucky will host Milwaukee on Monday, March 8, and Tuesday, March 9. Matches are set for 6 p.m. and 3 p.m. respectively.
