FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team (5-1-1, 5-0-1 Horizon League) remains unbeaten in the Horizon League and takes its third-consecutive shutout victory, defeating Purdue Fort Wayne (3-4, 2-4 Horizon League), 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Hefner Field.
"Our team has committed to defending all over the field and the entire group was outstanding today in limiting opportunities," said head coach Bob Sheehan. "Conversely, we created some terrific chances to score today. Kaya has an excellent skill-set and her left-footed goal was special. Overall, we accomplished our goal of earning three points against a very good Purdue Fort Wayne team on the road today."
NKU SCORING SUMMARY
- Kaya Vogt had the lone goal of the afternoon in the 65th minute of the match.
BETWEEN THE POSTS
- Mimi Stines faced seven shots and made a save in a solo-shutout as keeper.
MATCH SUMMARY
- NKU came out firing, with Sofia Wilmes missing a shot to the left in the first 20 seconds of the match.
- The Norse had three more shot attempts before finally getting one on target. Shortly after a throw-in in the 11th minute, Lindsey Meyer had a great opportunity stifled down the middle of the goal.
- Things became scary for the Mastodons in latter seconds of the 18th minute as Kailey Ivins took a dangerous shot and Meyer missed the goal after picking up the ball when it ricocheted off the keeper.
- Kiley Keehan also placed a shot on target in the 36th minute to the lower-right corner of the goal.
- The game was still scoreless at halftime despite NKU's blistering edge on shots, 15-0.
- With Purdue Fort Wayne getting a tail wind in the second half, its offense flowed much more smoothly and found more chances. The Mastodons took their first shot of the day in the 60th minute.
- Vogt finally put a score on the board in the 65th minute, taking a shot from the edge of the final third on the far side and sailing it over the keeper's head and into the upper-right corner of the net.
- Purdue Fort Wayne had four more shot attempts on the day, but none of them were on goal thanks to NKU's stingy back line.
NORSE NOTES
- Vogt's goal is the second of her young career after also netting one in NKU's 3-1 win over Green Bay (March 3).
- This is the first time NKU picked up three-straight shutout victories since Sept. 11-18, 2016.
- Stines becomes the first keeper to post three-straight solo-shutouts since Emily Lohmann did in that span in 2016.
