Highland Heights, Ky. – Northern Kentucky's men's tennis will compete against the Flames of UIC April 10 and 11, at the Lindner Tennis Center at Lunken. Both matches are set to start at 2:30 p.m.
NKU is coming off of a weekend sweep over IUPUI to start league play 2-0. On Saturday, the Norse clinched an exciting win over the Jaguars with a come-from-behind 4-3 win.
Trevor Ball picked up the first point that day 7-6, 6-3 after the Jags dominated in doubles play.
Jorge Rodriguez picked up the next win over his opponent 7-6, 6-2.
Andrew Niehaus ultimately clinched the match for the Norse, winning 6-7, 6-4, 6-2.
On Sunday, the Norse closed out the series, 5-2.
Emilien Burnel topped his opponent 6-3, 6-2 to start singles play. Following Burnel was Rodriguez (3-6, 6-1, 6-1) then
Brandon Ponomarew clinched a close win 6-4, 7-6 (4). Niehaus then secured the team victory yet again over his opponent 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.
The Flames currently sit at 1-12 overall, and 0-4 in conference play. Their last set of games were against Youngstown State, falling in both matches 0-7 and 1-6. UIC was picked to finish fifth overall in the Horizon League preseason poll.
In the last meeting between the two teams on April 26, 2019, the Norse fell to the Flames, 4-1.
