INDIANAPOLIS – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (14-22, 11-16 Horizon League) squared off with Butler (10-17, 4-7 BIG EAST) in a nonconference doubleheader on Sunday at Bulldog Park, taking game one, 6-4, in extras, while falling, 3-0, in a combined no-hitter in game two.
GAME 1: Northern Kentucky 6, Butler 4
AT THE PLATE
ON THE MOUND
- Noah Richardson worked the first five-innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and a couple of walks.
- Bryson Lonsbury dished an inning of relief in the sixth, yielding a run on two hits and a walk.
- Kyle Klingenbeck (W, 4-5) dealt a scoreless couple of innings to close out the comeback win for NKU, yielding just a single baserunner on balls.
KEY MOMENTS
- At the top of the second inning, Moss batted in a right-side single and stole second. The outfielder then reached home thanks to an error by Butler's centerfielder with Gick at the plate.
- An infield single represented the tying run via a blooper to center for the Bulldogs an inning later.
- A single to centerfield and a grounder that shot up through the middle gave Butler the lead in the bottom of the fourth.
- A leadoff walk and a pair of wild pitches put a runner on third for the Bulldogs an inning later, with the run coming home thanks to a single to right, making it a 3-1 ballgame.
- After Marion led off with a walk in the sixth, Wakeham pounded a double to right field to make it a one run game, but Butler fought back in its half of the frame with another run after a leadoff triple and a sacrifice flyout.
- The Norse came back and sent the game to extras after the seventh. NKU loaded the bases after Fisher was hit by a pitch, Odom claimed an infield single and Doersching was intentionally walked. With two outs, Bacon smacked a single to centerfield, plating two to tie things up at four.
- Gick singled through the right side and was quickly in scoring position after a wild pitch in the eighth. Odom followed by putting a grounder into play, but Butler's third basemen misplayed the throw and was tagged with the error that produced the winning run.
- The throwing error proved costly, allowing Odom to get all the way to third, who scored the final run of the day after Hedges batted an infield single.
GAME 2: Butler 3, Northern Kentucky 0
AT THE PLATE
ON THE MOUND
- Ben Gerl (L, 3-5) fell an out shy of officially getting a quality start, but he did well in yielding just two earned runs five hits and a walk. He also put out five on strikes.
- Kaleb Meeks recorded the final out for NKU and did not allow anyone to reach base.
KEY MOMENTS
- A left-side single plated a runner for Butler, who was with a double to leadoff the bottom of the second, for the first score of the game.
- The Bulldogs increased their lead to 2-0 with a home run toward left field an inning later.
- A walk and a throwing error put runners on the corners in the fourth for Butler, which allowed one run to score through a grounder to second, making it three-consecutive frames the Bulldogs tacked on a run.

- The Norse take the trip up to Rochester, Michigan for a four-game battle with Oakland next weekend. Game one will be on Friday at 2:00 p.m.
