DETROIT – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team was dominant in the 74-54 road victory over Detroit Mercy Thursday evening. The Norse pick up their sixth consecutive win to improve to 10-3 (4-2 Horizon League). UDM falls to 0-15 on the year (0-8 HL).
STATS LEADERS
- Kailee Davis posted a career-high 14 total points, shooting 4-for-8 from beyond the arc.
- Lindsey Duvall totaled a team-high 19 points, 17 of which would occur in the second half. Duvall also led NKU with three steals.
- Grayson Rose owned the glass tonight, totaling 16 rebounds, five of which were offensive boards. Rose added two blocks on the night as well.
- Carissa Garcia and Ivy Turner each finished the night in double-figures with Garcia at 14 and Turner with 12.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The Norse started off hot in this contest with an 8-0 run against the Titans.
- NKU began to struggle shooting late in the opening quarter, going 1-for-11 over three minutes.
- Turner helped end the cold streak with a made three and Davis knocked down a pair of free throws to see NKU up 17-12 through the first.
- NKU saw its biggest lead of the game at 20-12 after the Davis three-pointer in the second quarter.
- Both programs went quiet shooting from the floor midway through the second period, going scoreless over nearly four minutes.
- Davis again helped break the Norse cold streak with under a minute remaining, hitting a three from the left wing.
- Garcia joined in with a three of her own from the top of the key to push the half time Norse lead to 32-22.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- NKU surged ahead of UDM in the third quarter, posting a 5-0 run over the opening two minutes.
- Davis continued to stay hot in the second half, connecting with her third three-pointer to extend the Norse lead to 45-32.
- The Norse dominated the second half, creating a 17-4 scoring run over seven total minutes.
- NKU's shooting was on point to begin the fourth quarter, going 4-for-6 (66.7 percent).
- Northern Kentucky kept its foot on the gas down the stretch of this game, finishing off Detroit Mercy by a final score of 74-54.
GAME NOTES
- NKU is currently 10-3 overall, which is the best start to a season since 2011-12 when the Norse began 12-3 overall.
- Davis returned to her hometown of Detroit with a bang, posting 14 total points against UDM, a career-high for the freshman.
- Duvall continued her streak of scoring in double-digits in a Norse uniform as she finished with 19 points tonight. Her streak is now up to 32 games.
- Turner finished with 12 total points, her 11th double-figure scoring game this season.
- Eight total Norse recorded points in tonight's win, and 12 total players saw action.
