ROCHESTER, Mich. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team continued to stay hot this winter, picking up win number seven in a row by defeating Oakland on the road, 79-67. The Norse improve to 11-3 overall this season, and 5-2 in the Horizon League. The Golden Grizzlies drop to 7-8 overall, and 5-3 in conference play.
STATS LEADERS
- Ivy Turner posted a game-high 17 points today, shooting 6-for-11 from the floor. Turner added seven assists, five rebounds and three steals to her stat sheet.
- Grayson Rose dominated the paint once again, pulling down 17 rebounds, and recording three blocks. Rose added seven points to the winning effort as well.
- Lindsey Duvall heated up in the second half to finish with 16 points. She added three rebounds and three assists to her stats also.
- Emmy Souder, Carissa Garcia and Kailee Davis all finished in double-figure scoring with 13, 10 and 10 respectively.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- Souder started this game off hot, going 3-for-3 from the floor to see NKU up 8-5 in the first three minutes.
- The Golden Grizzlies found some early rhythm of their own, building an 11-2 scoring run over 2:59 midway through the opening period.
- The Norse defense stepped up late in the first quarter, holding Oakland to just 1-for-4 shooting from the field by the end of the period.
- Northern Kentucky caught fire late in the second quarter, generating an 20-4 scoring run in 4:30 minutes.
- NKU led Oakland at the break 40-28 after the Norse defense stepped up to generate 14 points off turnovers.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- Oakland began the second half with a 9-5 run to cut the Norse lead down to just 45-37.
- The Golden Grizzlies continues their hot streak with a 8-0 scoring run midway through the third quarter.
- The Norse struggled shooting, as a drought hit NKU in the third period, going just 1-for-5.
- NKU righted the ship by the end of the third period, holding off Oakland by a score of 57-51.
- NKU burst into the fourth quarter with a 5-0 run that saw the Norse back up 12 points with 8:19 left in regulation.
- Northern Kentucky capped off the final period with another scoring run of 5-0 to defeat Oakland, 79-67.
GAME NOTES
- Northern Kentucky is currently on a seven-game winning streak this season, which began on Dec. 5, 2021.
- NKU is currently 11-3 overall, which is the best start to a season since 2011-12 when the Norse began 12-3 overall.
- Duvall continued her streak of scoring in double-digits in a Norse uniform as she finished with 16 points today. Her streak is now up to 33 consecutive games.
- Turner finished with 17 total points, her 12th double-figure scoring game this season.
- Turner also tied her career-high for assists with seven in this contest.
