HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team took down their rival Wright State at home by a score of 77-59. The Norse improve to 12-3 this season, including 6-2 in conference play. The Raiders fall to 2-13 overall and 1-9 in the Horizon League.

 
STATS LEADERS 
  • Khamari Mitchell-Steen led the Norse in the scoring column with 23 and went 9-of-12 (75 percent) from the field. Mitchell-Steen added seven rebounds and three blocks to her game as well.
  • Lindsey Duvall clinched a double-double in the contest with 17 points and 13 rebounds. Duvall shot 2-for-5 (40 percent) from behind the arc and dished two assists.
  • Ivy Turner also pitched in 17 points for the Norse and went 6-for-8 (75 percent) at the charity stripe.
  • Carissa Garcia added eight points, three assists and one rebound in the game.  

FIRST HALF SUMMARY
  • Mitchell-Steen took advantage of the Norse wining the tip and grabbed the first basket of the game at the 9:41 mark.
  • At the 4:21 mark, Duvall pulled down an offensive rebound and was able to convert the board to a bucket. Turner followed up Duvall 15 seconds later with a layup, allowing the Norse to regain the lead 12-10.
  • Closing out the first quarter, Turner dished a pass to Rose to tie up the game at 17.
  • NKU started the second quarter on fire with an 13-2 run, fueled by Turner, Mitchell-Steen and Davis.
  • The Norse stayed ahead in the second quarter, thanks to a strong three-point shooting percentage, going 3-for-4.
  • Going into the break, NKU held the 42-35 advantage. The Norse had a total of eight offensive rebounds with Emmy Souder securing three and Mitchell-Steen grabbing two.

SECOND HALF SUMMARY
  • Turner started off the second half with an easy layup down the paint. Mitchell-Steen also contributed early in the half to the scoring column with a basket and free-throw.
  • At the 4:35 mark, Duvall sunk a triple to give the Norse the 52-45 advantage.
  • To end the third quarter, Mitchell-Steen made a three and then on the next possession had a steal which she converted to a layup. Mitchell-Steen's run allowed the Norse to go into the break up 59-51.
  • The Norse continued their lead in the fourth quarter with a 11-0 run. Garcia, Turner and Duvall all contributed respectively to the scoring frenzy.
  • To conclude the physical competition, Garcia made a jumper to make to the final score 77-59.
  • The Norse had 21 points from fast break opportunities.

GAME NOTES
  • The last time Northern Kentucky defeated Wright State was back on March 10, 1987.
  • Mitchell-Steen's big night included her posting career-highs in both points (23) and blocks (3). She tied her career-high in steals (4) as well.
  • Duvall continued her streak of scoring in double-digits in a Norse uniform as she finished with 17 points tonight. Her streak is now up to 34 consecutive games. 
  • Duvall's double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds was her sixth of the season. 
  • NKU returned home finally to BB&T Arena tonight, after not playing at home for a total of 43 days. 
  • The Norse are now 11-0 on the year when out-rebounding an opponent. Tonight NKU totaled 42 boards as a team, compared to Wright State's 38.

  • Northern Kentucky will see Wright State again in the next matchup as the Norse will travel to Dayton, Ohio to take on the Horizon League rival. Tip-off for this conference contest is schedule for 4 p.m. inside the Wright State University Nutter Center.
