DAYTON, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team picked up their ninth consecutive win by taking down rival Wright State on the road, 82-79. The Norse improve to 13-3 this season, and 7-2 in the Horizon League. The Raiders drop to 2-14 on the year and 1-10 in conference play.
STATS LEADERS
- Ivy Turner led NKU with 17 total points tonight, shooting 7-for-15 overall. Turner added a game-high six assists to her stat sheet, along with three steals and four rebounds.
- Grayson Rose posted a double-double with 10 points and pulling down 11 total rebounds. Rose totaled one block on the night as well.
- Khamari Mitchell-Steen continued her offensive outburst this weekend, totaling 14 points after shooting 6-for-11 overall.
- Lindsey Duvall finished the game with 11 total points and three rebounds also.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- The Norse posted a 10-0 run against the Raiders after falling behind 5-2, with Rose knocking down back-to-back three-pointers.
- Wright State found an answer for NKU, with a 9-2 scoring run over two minutes to close the gap to just 15-14 in favor of Northern Kentucky.
- Through the opening quarter, the Norse led 22-17 against WSU.
- Wright State began the second period on a 6-0 run to take a 23-22 lead over the Norse as Destyne Jackson fueled the Raider offense.
- Northern Kentucky regained control after a Turner three, pushing the Norse lead out to 10 points, 39-29.
- The Norse began to pull away at the half, leading 50-38 as Turner finished with 15 total points.
- NKU finished the second quarter shooting 62.5 percent to hold a 12-point lead over Wright State.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- A slow start to the third period for each program, as both squads began shooting 1-for-5 overall.
- The Norse hit a bit of a skid for nearly two minutes, going scoreless as Wright State cut the NKU lead to just 62-52.
- The defense of Mitchell-Steen continued to stifle opponents, as a steal and quick lay up from Khamari helped push the Norse lead to 71-64.
- Wright State posted a 5-0 run late in the fourth quarter to trail the Norse at 78-74 with 2:22 remaining.
- The Raiders would trail by just one point at 80-79 with only 12 seconds remaining in regulation, but Duvall was able to knock down back-to-back free throws to seal the win.
GAME NOTES
- The last time Northern Kentucky swept the season series against Wright State was during the 1986-87 season, which was also the year the Norse defeated the Raiders on the road.
- The Norse with a current record of 13-3 is the best start to a season since the 2008-09 year where Northern Kentucky went 16-0.
- This was the first win of the year for NKU where they have been out-rebounded by an opponent.
- Mitchell-Steen's 14 points tonight is the second highest of her career, and her second consecutive game scoring in double-figures.
- Rose's double-double is the fourth of the season for the graduate senior.
- Duvall continued her streak of scoring in double-digits in a Norse uniform as she finished with 11 points today. Her streak is now up to 35 consecutive games.
