Clos Family creates legacy with NKU Athletics, NKU Haile College of Business

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – Northern Kentucky University Athletics, the Go Norse Fund and the NKU Haile College of Business received a commitment from Karen and Jeff '76 Clos to establish the Clos Family Scholarship. The scholarship, committed in October 2022, marks the 20th endowment created in support of Norse student-athletes. The scholarship will support a NKU student-athlete enrolled in the Haile College of Business, who must maintain a 3.0 or better GPA and have demonstrated financial need.

"We are grateful to Karen and Jeff for their passion and support of NKU Athletics and the Haile College of Business and for ensuring that NKU student-athletes will benefit from the Clos scholarship endowment into perpetuity," Vice President and Director of Athletics Christina Roybal said. "Their endowment leaves a lasting impression and assisting in the longevity of NKU Athletics, and more importantly is a testament to their commitment to helping student-athletes succeed in their academics and competition."

Endowments are a cornerstone to the longevity and financial strength of a higher education institution. This gift provides critical scholarship funding, in perpetuity, to continue supporting the academic and athletic endeavors for future generations of Norse student-athletes. On an annual basis, endowment donors are introduced with their student-athlete recipient with regular engagement points throughout the academic year. Through introduction letters and occasional engagement events, the goal is to build a strong, line-long mentorship between donors and the student-athletes to share the story behind their philanthropy and provide guidance during and after college.

"Both the Haile College of Business and NKU Athletics are focused on the well-being of our students and preparing and empowering them for academic and competitive success at NKU and beyond," shared Dr. Hassan Hassab Elnaby, Dean of the Haile College of Business. "Our programs in the college continue to be nationally recognized and provide a top-quality, well-rounded education that will equip student athlete graduates with the skills and tools crucial to become successful business leaders."

The mission of Northern Kentucky University is to deliver innovative, student-centered education and engage in impactful scholarly and creative endeavors. NKU's devoted supporters enrich this mission and empower our graduates to attain fulfilling careers and create meaningful lives while contributing to the overall vitality of our region.

In considering the many ways to support Northern Kentucky University, the decision to invest in the institution's endowment sustains the development of NKU's campus, the academic achievements of our students and the acquisition of distinguished faculty. Endowed gifts establish support for today, while ensuring NKU continues to rise to new heights for years to come. The generosity of endowment donors provides a firm foundation upon which NKU can build a diverse and driven student body and work to be a more inclusive and vibrant community.
