YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team was defeated on the road by Horizon League leader Youngstown State Friday evening. NKU falls to 17-7 this season, and 11-6 in conference play. The Penguins improve to 22-4 overall on the year, and 16-3 in league action. 
 

STATS LEADERS

  • Lindsey Duvall led the Norse offensive tonight with 13 points and played a total of 40 minutes. Duvall added three rebounds and one steal to her stat line. 
  • Ivy Turner finished in double-figures with 10 points on the night. Turner grabbed six rebounds, dished out six assists and totaled one steal as well. 
  • Grayson Rose pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds in the game and rejected six overall shots. Rose added nine points to the Norse scoring effort also. 
     

FIRST HALF SUMMARY

  • The first quarter of this matchup featured a back-and-forth battle, with each team trading baskets through the opening seven minutes. 
  • A three-pointer from Rose gave NKU an 11-9 lead with 2:23 left in the opening period. 
  • YSU generated a quick 5-0 scoring run to reclaim the lead at 14-11 with under a minute remaining in the first quarter. 
  • Quarter number two was a defensively fight between these two top programs, as the Norse went on to outscore the Penguins 10-8 overall. 
  • NKU held YSU to their lowest shooting percentage of the night in the second period, as the Penguins shot 3-for-11 (27.27 percent). 
  • An Emmy Souder layup and Turner made free throw capped off the first half for NKU, trailing behind YSU just 24-23. 

SECOND HALF SUMMARY

  • This game saw a major turning point midway through the third quarter when Youngstown State built an 8-0 run to surge ahead 38-30. 
  • That YSU continued late into the third period as the Penguins created separation from NKU at 44-32, a 14-2 overall run. 
  • Northern Kentucky managed to get as close as eight points down in the fourth quarter at 48-40 with just under nine minutes remaining. 
  • The Youngstown State offense kept up its attack however to maintain a double-digit lead throughout the remainder of the game for the 62-49 win. 
     

GAME NOTES

  • Rose hit yet another milestone in her Norse career, playing in her 132nd game for Northern Kentucky tonight. Grayson is now first all-time in NKU history in total games played as she surpasses Amy Mobley (1999-2003) who totaled 131 games for the Norse.
  • Rose's six blocks tied her career high. She last rejected six shots against Green Bay on Nov. 18, 2021. 
  • Turner's six rebounds was a season-high for the junior guard.
  • Duvall has now recorded 22 total games scoring in double-digits this season. Turner posted her 19th game scoring in double-digits as well tonight.
