MOON TOWNSHIP, Penn. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team got back into the win column Sunday afternoon by defeating Robert Morris on the road 64-49. The Norse improve to 18-7 overall this season and 12-6 in the Horizon League. RMU drops to 12-13 on the year, and 10-10 in conference play.
STATS LEADERS
- Lindsey Duvall led the NKU offensive attack today with a game-high 18 points. Duvall posted a double-double as well, pulling down 11 rebounds. She additionally totaled two assists, two steals and one block to stuff the stats sheet.
- Emmy Souder finished the day in double figures as well scoring 14 total points on 6-for-7 (85.7 percent) shooting from the floor. Souder also grabbed five rebounds and dished out one assist.
- Ivy Turner guided the Norse offense against RMU with six total assists. Turner provided nine points, three rebounds and two steals to the winning effort as well.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- Northern Kentucky got off to a hot start in this conference matchup, building a 15-0 lead to begin the game through four minutes.
- RMU bounced back however with an 11-6 run of their own to cap off the opening period.
- Robert Morris carried that momentum into the second quarter, posting a 6-0 scoring run to cut deeply in that NKU lead.
- Both of these programs struggled late in the second period, as each went scoreless for nearly three minutes.
- Duvall finally broke that scoreless streak, hitting a three-pointer and a driving layup to see the Norse leading 30-20 at the half.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- NKU's defense continued to give RMU problems, as the Colonials scored just nine points in the second quarter and 14 in the third.
- The Norse offense got hot once again in the third, shooting 60 percent overall as Duvall, Souder, and Kailee Davis all provided big shots.
- Robert Morris managed to generate a run of 8-0 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Norse were in complete control of this game from the opening tip.
- Despite hitting spurts of not scoring, Northern Kentucky turned on the jets when needed against the Colonials, putting away RMU 64-49 by the final buzzer.
- Northern Kentucky shot 24-for-53 (45.3 percent) overall today, including two quarters of shooting 60 percent or better.
GAME NOTES
- Duvall's double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds was her eighth of the season. This was also her 23rd game scoring in double-digits and her eighth game pulling down 10 or more rebounds.
- Souder's 14 points today was her eighth double-digit scoring outing of the season, and her third out of the five past games she has played in.
- Northern Kentucky's regular season away record is 12-3 overall, the best record a Norse team has seen when playing on the road since 2008-09 when NKU went 11-1 overall when traveling.
- The Norse currently have 12 total Horizon League wins, which ties the most since becoming a member of this conference that NKU has won since the 2019-20 season. Northern Kentucky won 10 total Horizon League contests during the 2018-19 season, which is second most all-time as well.
