@NKUNorseBSB falls to #7 MSU in game two

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (1-4, 0-0 Horizon League) was downed by No. 7 Mississippi State (3-3, 0-0 SEC) on the road Saturday evening by a final score of 10-1. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Jayden Wakeham provided an early spark for the Norse offense, going 1-for-3 today with a solo home run and one run scored. 
  • Noah Fisher turned in a two-hit day as he went 2-for-3 with a walk and a double. 
  • Manny Vorhees extended his hitting streak to five games after going 1-for-3 on the day with a double. 
     

ON THE MOUND 

  • Ben Gerl (L, 0-2) got the start for the Norse, throwing 6.0 innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out six total. 
  • Drew Switzer and Michael Bohlen each came in for relief appearances after Gerl, totaling 1.0 inning combined. 
  • Blaine Walters finished the game off for NKU, throwing 1.0 inning and striking out one. 
     

AROUND THE HORN

  • Wakeham got the scoring started in game two, with a solo shot to right field in the second inning to give NKU a 1-0 lead.
  • The Bulldogs took over the lead in the bottom of the third after an RBI single to left and then a three-run home run to left field as well. 
  • MSU tacked on four more runs in the seventh, which featured a two-run home run to left field.
  • Mississippi State capped off their scoring in the bottom of the eighth with another two-run homer.
