FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky women's basketball team notched another road win this season, defeating Purdue Fort Wayne 67-43. The Norse improve to 16-4 overall this season, along with a 10-3 record in the Horizon League. The Mastodons drop to 6-15 on the year, and 5-9 in conference play.
STATS LEADERS
- Lindsey Duvall led NKU in scoring tonight with 15 total points on 5-for-10 shooting from the floor.
- Khamari Mitchell-Steen added 11 points along with seven rebounds and two steals to help secure the Norse victory.
- Ivy Turner also chipped in for 11 points this evening, and stuff the stat sheet with four assists, three rebounds and three steals.
- Trinity Thompson led the Norse with 10 total rebounds and added seven points and two blocks in the winning effort.
FIRST HALF SUMMARY
- Four total Norse got on the scoreboard to open the first quarter as Duvall, Mitchell-Steen, Turner and Emmy Souder put NKU up 8-0.
- The Mastodons answered right back however with a 7-0 scoring run of their own to cut the lead to 8-7 to force the NKU timeout at 5:32.
- These programs would each catch fire late in the opening quarter, each shooting 3-for-4 to close the period with NKU leading 16-15.
- Northern Kentucky built some separation midway through the second quarter with a 11-0 scoring run over 6:37 minutes to lead 27-15.
- The Mastodons were held to just 1-for-13 shooting from the floor in the second period, as the NKU defense played a huge role in this game.
- NKU entered the break, leading 29-17 against Purdue Fort Wayne, holding the Mastodons to just two points in the second quarter.
SECOND HALF SUMMARY
- These programs continued to trade baskets throughout the third quarter, with each team shooting 4-for-5 from the field.
- NKU maintained a double-digit lead after the Turner steal and score at 41-26 with 4:43 left in the third period.
- Northern Kentucky kept the foot on the gas pedal, as the Norse held on to their lead for the entirety of this contest.
- The Norse saw some key minutes late in the fourth quarter from Joelle Johnson who knocked down a three and Tayah Irvin who posted two points and four rebounds.
- The defense of NKU stepped up once again in this game, holding Purdue Fort Wayne to just 4-for-17 in the fourth quarter and totaling just 10 points.
GAME NOTES
- Thompson has now posted back-to-back games with at least 10 rebounds. Her 10 tonight ties her career-high which she tallied against UIC.
- Mitchell-Steen has totaled double-digit scoring in five total games this season. She has posted 11 or more points in her last four-of-six games also.
- Northern Kentucky has been dominant this season when outrebounding their opponents, currently with a 14-1 record.
- The Norse are now 5-0 when playing games this season on Thursdays.
- Northern Kentucky currently sits at 16-4 overall, the best start the Norse have seen since becoming a NCAA Division I member school. The 10-3 record in Horizon League action so far is also a program best for NKU.

The Norse finish this road trip Saturday, Feb. 5 against Cleveland State in a Horizon League showdown of two of the conference's top teams. Tip-off for this battle is slated for 2 p.m. (ET) as well.
