@NKUNorseBSB tripped up by rival Wright State in game one

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (6-13, 1-2 Horizon) was tripped up at home by conference rival Wright State (7-12, 2-2 Horizon) Friday afternoon by a final score of 18-4. 
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Liam McFadden-Ackman provided a spark on offense today, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, one run scored and a walk. 
  • Griffin Kain posted a solid day coming off the Norse bench, going 2-for-2 with one run driven in. 
  • Michael Hall went a perfect 3-for-3 on the day, with one walk and scored two runs as well. 
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Ben Gerl (L, 2-3) started on the bump for NKU today, throwing 3.2 total innings, allowing two earned runs of the 12 total scored. Gerl tacked on three strikeouts to his score sheet and ultimately face 27 WSU batters.
  • Zach Haigis, Drew Switzer, Blaine Walters and Michael Bohlen all combined to pitch the remaining 5.1 innings for the Norse.
  • Switzer and Bohlen turned in clean sheets, allowing zero runs during their time on the hill for NKU. Bohlen added two strikeouts as he shut down the Raiders during the final two innings. 
 
AROUND THE HORN
  • The Norse jumped on the board to start the game in the bottom of the first inning with a Jayden Wakeham single to right field that scored Manny Vorhees.
  • Wright State countered with an eight-run top of the second however to lead 8-1 overall. 
  • The Raiders were not done as another eight-run inning occurred in the top of the fourth. 
  • NKU saw a spark of offense in the bottom half of this inning, as McFadden-Ackman drilled a two-run homer over the center field wall to put the score at 16-3. 
  • WSU tacked on two additional runs in the top of the seventh with a two-run home run of their own. 
  • Northern Kentucky capped off the scoring as Kain singled to right field to bring home Hall to put the final score at 18-4.  
 
UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky baseball returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, March 26, as the Norse host Wright State in game two of this three-game Horizon League series. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) from the Bill Aker Baseball Complex in Highland Heights, Ky.
