@NKUNorseSB back in action at Dayton

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – A previously postponed softball game is back on the schedule for Northern Kentucky and Dayton, which will play at 3 p.m. Tuesday at UD Softball Stadium.

QUICK HITTERS
• The Norse (11-16, 2-4 Horizon League) have been idle since March 20 at Green Bay due to weather-related game postponements and rescheduling. NKU has won three of its last four games, including the Green Bay series it won 2-1.

Kendyl McKeough leads the Horizon League in home runs (8) and doubles (7). She's second in the conference in slugging percentage (.741), hits (29) and RBI (18). McKeough also ranks fourth in batting average (.358) and runs scored (17), and seventh in at-bats (81).

Madisyn Eads (6-5) leads NKU's pitching corps with a 3.03 ERA. She has allowed 73 hits and struck out 46 in 74 innings pitched.

Kendyl McKeough has delivered a tremendous offensive boost this season, including a walk-off home run. Tennessee Tech scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning of their Blue Hose Invitational game Feb. 12 to knot the score at six. Enter Keough with the game-winning homer for the 6-5 Norse victory in Clinton, S.C.

• Just three games into the season, Tatum Biddle matched an NKU record that had not been replicated since 2009. Biddle had two triples in the five-inning, 21-1 rout of South Carolina State in the Blue Hose Invitational Feb. 12. The last Norse player who had two or more triples in a game was Rose Broderick, who collected two triples against Bellarmine on April 25, 2009.

Biddle's triple in the bottom of the second inning versus South Carolina State yielded three RBI. She followed suit in the bottom of the third with a triple that drove in two more runs. Biddle also set a new program record with seven RBI in that victory. Biddle's two triples lead the Horizon League.

• NKU snapped a seven-game skid with a 4-2 victory over Western Illinois, March 15 at Frank Ignatius Grein Softball Field. Kendyl McKeough hit the first of two home runs in the bottom of the first inning and the Norse, bolstered by pitching, defense and McKeough's hot bat, prevailed.

• Northern Kentucky received 39 votes and was picked to finish sixth in the #HLSB preseason poll. Oakland, the preseason favorite, received two first place nods among its 82 total votes. Second place Youngstown State (81 points) had five first-place votes.

SCOUTING DAYTON: The Flyers (8-15, 4-4 Atlantic 10) lost two conference games to Saint Joseph's over the weekend in a weather-shortened series. The Flyers have four everyday players hitting above .300, led by Grace Gressly (.412 average). Senior right-hander Kelsey Gumm (3-5) leads UD pitchers with a conference-best 2.63 ERA in 56.0 innings pitched. She has struck out 53, good for sixth in the A-10.
