@NKUNorseBSB falls in game one at Milwaukee, 5-3

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (6-17, 1-5 Horizon) was taken down in game one of this series against Milwaukee (9-8, 2-0 Horizon) by a final score of 4-3.  
 

AT THE PLATE

  • Manny Vorhees, Ryan Glass and Jayden Wakeham each totaled one hit a piece for the Norse on the day. 
  • Glass finished the day with one double, one run scored, one run and one stolen base.
  • Wakeham and Vorhees each tallied one RBI a piece as well.
     
ON THE MOUND 
  • Tyler Murphy started on the hill for NKU, throwing a total of a 0.2 inning where he faced four batters and recorded one walk and one hit.
  • TJ Graves stepped up as the next Norse out of the bullpen, lasting 1.1 totaling innings, after facing five batters and shutting down the Panthers.
  • Michael Bohlen posted 0.2 of an inning as well, dealing one walk in the three batters he faced but closed the inning out with no hits or runs allowed. 
  • Ben Gerl (L, 2-4) finished the remaining 5.1 innings out for NKU, totaling four strikeouts against the 27 batters faced. Gerl ended his outing allowing eight hits, five earned runs and two walks as well. 
 
AROUND THE HORN
  • NKU jumped all over the Panthers early in this Horizon League battle, putting up three runs in the top of the third inning. Vorhees kicked off the scoring with a sacrifice fly to left center, which was followed by a Glass double down the left field line. Wakeham capped off the Northern Kentucky scoring in the inning with a single to second base to bring home Glass.
  • Milwaukee tied things up in the bottom of the sixth however with a three run scoring spurt of their own.
  • The Panthers took over the lead in the seventh with an RBI double to right center field for the 4-3 lead. 
  • MKE finished game one off by scoring an insurance run in the eighth on a wild pitch from NKU and claimed the victory at 5-3 overall. 

UP NEXT 
  • Northern Kentucky baseball will square off against Milwaukee in game two of this three-game series tomorrow, Saturday, April 2 from Franklin Field with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. (ET) / 2 p.m. (CT).
