@NKUNorseBSB Comeback Stifled by Mastodons

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky Baseball team (12-19, 6-6 Horizon) was downed in game one of the series with the Mastodons of Purdue Fort Wayne (9-22, 6-7 Horizon) by a final score of 9-5. 
 
AT THE PLATE

  • John Odom was back in the lineup for the first time since April 3 and made a huge impact. Odom went 3-for-4 with four RBI, one home run and one run scored. 
  • Manny Vorhees posted an impressive day offensively as well, going 3-for-5 with one homer, one RBI, one double and one run scored. Vorhees also extended his hitting streak out to eight total games as well. 
  • Noah Fisher, Ryan Glass and Brennan Gick each totaled one hit a piece in this conference matchup as well. 
     
ON THE MOUND
  • TJ Graves started on the hill for the Norse, throwing 0.2 of an inning, allowing two earned runs, four hits and recorded one strikeout.
  •  Michael Bohlen provided a scoreless inning of relief, only allowing one walk and one hit against the four batters he faced. 
  • Ben Gerl (L, 2-5) finished the remainder of the game, totaling 7.1 innings in relief. Gerl's final stat line was one strikeout, 12 hits, four walks and seven runs. 

AROUND THE HORN 
  • Purdue Fort Wayne jumped on the scoreboard first to open this game with a pair of runs for an early 2-0 lead.
  • The Norse cut the lead in half after an Odom single up the middle to bring home Fisher. 
  • Vorhees tied up the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth with a monster of a home run to left field. 
  • The Mastodons countered quickly in the top of the seventh with four runs, which included back-to-back home runs during the inning. 
  • Odom came up clutch once again with a three-run homer to left center field in the bottom of the eighth to cut the PFW lead to just 6-5. 
  • Purdue Fort Wayne however tacked on three more runs in the top of the ninth to ultimately take the game at 9-5 overall.

  • Northern Kentucky Baseball is back in action against the Mastodons of PFW tomorrow afternoon, Friday, April 15 with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. (ET) from the BIll Aker Baseball Complex.
