FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Northern Kentucky Baseball fell twice Friday afternoon against Horizon League opponent Purdue Fort Wayne on the road. The Norse drop to 13-23 overall and 7-9 in conference while the Mastodons improve to 12-24 this season and 9-8 in the Horizon League.
GAME ONE: PFW 4 - NKU 2
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
- The Norse jumped ahead to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning after Noah Fisher scored on a wild pitch, and Brennan Gick drove in a run on a ground out to second base.
- All scoring in this first matchup was done in the opening inning as the Mastodons scored their first run with a singled through the right side of the field.
- PFW then took over the lead at 4-2 with a three-run homer to right field and that was all that was needed in this seven-inning tilt.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Kyle Klingenbeck (L, 2-5) went the distance for the Norse, throwing all 6.0 innings today. Klingenbeck posted a solid overall outing as he struck out nine, only allowing one walk and four earned runs on six hits.
- Liam McFadden-Ackman posted the only multi-hit day for NKU, going 2-for-3 overall.
- Gick recorded the sole RBI on the day, going 0-for-3 overall after driving in the run during the first inning.
GAME TWO: PFW 4 - NKU 3
KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
- PFW struck first this time around, holding a 2-0 lead through three innings after an RBI single and double, both to left center field.
- The Norse tied up the game in the top of the sixth after a Michael Hall double to right brought in both Gick and Fisher.
- PFW regained the lead in the bottom half of the inning as a sacrifice fly scored the go ahead run at 3-2.
- NKU once again tied things up in the top of the seventh with a Manny Vorhees solo home run to left field.
- The Mastodons took game two in walk-off fashion as a RBI single to left center ended the game at 4-3 in PFW's favor.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Northern Kentucky saw yet another strong outing on the mound, as Ben Gerl threw 8.0 total innings against PFW. Gerl tied his season-high of seven strikeouts in this game, and only allowed three earned runs after facing 30 total batters.
- Michael Hall returned to the lineup for NKU to go 1-for-3 overall with two RBI and one double. Hall's last appearance for the Norse was on April 1.
- Manny Vorhees was solid behind the plate, going 1-for-2 on the day with one home run, one run scored, one RBI and two walks.

Northern Kentucky Baseball is right back at it tomorrow with a doubleheader on the road at Wright State. The Norse will make their way to Dayton, Ohio to a pair of Horizon League contests with game one against the Raiders scheduled for 12 p.m. (ET).
