@NKUNorseBSB offense explodes for 16 runs against EKU

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky.  – Northern Kentucky Baseball (14-25) bounced back in a major way in their nonconference bout against in-state rival Eastern Kentucky (27-14) from the Bill Aker Baseball Complex this afternoon, defeating the Colonels 16-5.

KEY MOMENTS OF THE GAME
  • The Colonels jumped on the board early with a two-run home run to left field in the top of the first inning.
  • EKU tacked on two additional runs in the second inning with an RBI single and a sacrifice fly for the 4-0 lead.
  • Eastern Kentucky capped their scoring for the day by taking a 5-0 lead with another home run, this one to center field.
  • The Norse were just getting started in the bottom of the third, as Manny Vorhees scored on a wild pitch.
  • Noah Fisher then belted a two-run homer to deep left field to see the Norse trail only 5-3.
  • Northern Kentucky's bats continued to heat up, as Vorhees drove in a run with a single to center in the bottom of the fourth. Later in the inning, Fisher pushed NKU ahead of the Colonels with a two-run single through the left side of the field for a 6-5 advantage.
  • NKU put yet another three-spot up on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth as Michael Hall crushed a three-run home run to deep center field for a 9-5 lead.
  • The Norse really poured it on in the bottom of the seventh, beginning with a based loaded Vorhees walk. This was followed up with a Fisher two-run single to left to extend the home lead out to 12-5.
  • Northern Kentucky finally ended this matchup in incredible fashion as Liam McFadden-Ackman hammered a ball to deep left field for a grand slam and put the score at 16-5 overall.
