HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky volleyball team was honored with the 2022 United States Marine Corp/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award the AVCA announced on Monday. NKU has been recognized with the award each of the last seven years and 10 of the last 11.
"Academic achievement is a core value of our program," said head coach
Liz Hart. "Our team works very hard to balance academics and athletics and their commitment in the classroom is shown by achieving a team GPA of 3.58 during the 2021-22 academic year to earn yet another AVCA team academic award."
Northern Kentucky as a program posted a team grade point average of 3.58 during the 2021-22 academic year, with both
Miranda Wucherer and
Anna Brinkmann earning Horizon League All-Academic honors. The Norse additionally saw 10 student-athletes named to Horizon League Fall and Spring Academic Honor Rolls this past year.
The Norse were also incredible on the court this past season with an overall record of 20-5 and a second-place finish in the Horizon League with a 15-2 mark. NKU reached the conference tournament semifinals for the eighth-straight year, which includes all seven as members of the Horizon League, and advanced to to the finals of the 2021 tournament as well. No other league program has experienced this level of sustained success in the tournament during the seven-year stretch.
In order to be eligible for the award, teams must hold a 3.30 cumulative GPA for the calendar year. Northern Kentucky posted a combined GPA across the two semesters of 3.57, which included a 3.63 in the spring semester.
