Women's Soccer home opener foiled by the Flyers

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer team had its home opener spoiled by visiting Dayton as the Flyers knocked off the Norse by a 3-0 score at the NKU Soccer Stadium on Thursday evening.

INSIDE THE NORSE BOX SCORE
- Mickayla Kowalski got her first action of the season in goal as she posted two saves and no goals allowed over the final 33:50 of the contest.
- Emma McSwigan and Annie Greene each recorded a shot on goal for the Norse.
- NKU finished with four attempted shots overall.
- An on-the-mend Norse squad gained experience up and down the roster tonight, with 21 student-athletes hitting the pitch in total for NKU.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Dayton got on the board early with a goal at the eight-minute mark to take a 1-0 lead.
- Eighteen minutes later, the Flyers struck again to go ahead 2-0.
- Dayton got another one four minutes into the second half to make the advantage 3-0.
- NKU fought to the whistle but couldn't get anything across as Dayton closed out the 3-0 non-conference victory.
 
FOR THE FOES
- Itala Gemeli scored two first half goals for the Flyers.
- Jessica Sheldon added another Dayton marker just four minutes into the second half to push the Flyers ahead 3-0.
- Madelyn Dewey recorded two saves to post her first shutout of the season.
- The Flyers were picked to finish second in the Atlantic 10 in the conference's preseason poll.
