Women’s Soccer falls in clash with Titans

DETROIT – A still on-the-mend Northern Kentucky women's soccer team was knocked off in the Norse's Horizon League opener as NKU dropped its clash with the Detroit Mercy Titans, 2-0, at Titan Stadium on Thursday evening.

INSIDE THE NORSE BOX SCORE
- Mickayla Kowalski turned aside seven shots in the contest, a new career-high for the junior goalkeeper. The performance tied for the sixth-most saves by a Horizon League student-athlete in a match this season. Her 15 saves on the year also rank 10th in the conference.
- Macy Harper and Ashleigh Cronin accounted for the two NKU shots on goal.
- Overall, 18 different NKU student-athletes touched the pitch on the evening.
- The Norse were responsible for 16 fouls against, the most recorded against NKU so far this season.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two sides played a back-and-forth affair for the majority of the first half, but the Titans turned up the pressure at the end and broke through with a goal in the 39th-minute to jump ahead 1-0.
- It only took a minute and eight seconds out of the locker room for Detroit Mercy to strike again to take a 2-0 advantage.
- The two sides played a scoreless match over the final 44 minutes of the match as DMU collected a victory in the Horizon opener.
 
FOR THE FOES
- Abbey Lodato was all over the pitch and finished with one goal and one assist to lead the DMU attack.
- Soraya Puerto-Khalil also notched a tally for the Titans.
- Scott Jazmine turned aside two shots to pick up the clean sheet.
