Men’s Basketball and Marques Warrick strike again as the birthday boy knocks off CSU at the buzzer

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – There aren't many better ways to spend your 21st birthday than what Northern Kentucky men's basketball standout Marques Warrick accomplished on Thursday night in Truist Arena. With the Norse trailing by two and the seconds ticking off the clock, the Lexington, Ky. native put up a 27-foot three-point attempt from the logo as time expired.
 
It was nothing but net for Warrick and the Norse who picked up another thrilling victory at home, 57-56 over conference foe Cleveland State.
 
With the win, Northern Kentucky remained in a three-way tie atop the Horizon League standings, knotted up with Youngstown State and Milwaukee who are all 7-2 in conference play.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The heroics belonged to Warrick, while celebrating his 21st birthday, hit the shot at the buzzer to seal the victory for NKU. On the evening, he finished with 19 points, one board and a steal. Warrick went 6-of-8 from the field and 4-of-5 from beyond the arc. With the scoring output, Warrick moved into 16th all-time in scoring in NKU history as he passed Greg Ohelia (1,310 career points) and Brenden Stowers (1,311 points). With 1,312 career points, Warrick sits just 17 back of Ryan Schrand for 15th all-time.
- Not to be overshadowed, Trevon Faulkner moved into No. 10 all-time in scoring in NKU history with his seven-point performance, which gave him 1,507 career points and counting. The Harrodsburg, Ky. native passed Craig Conley (1,502 career points) to move into the Top-10 all-time at NKU. He sits just 26 points back of Shawn Scott for ninth in school history. In the contest, Faulkner also added four rebounds, two assists, one block and a steal.
- Sam Vinson had another big game all over the court as the standout sophomore finished with a season-best 16 points, five assists and three boards. Without Vinson, NKU wouldn't have had a chance for the late win. With the score tied at 48-48 with 2:09 to go, Vinson dropped seven points in a row as the Norse kept pace with the Vikings. The scoring outburst led to Warrick's heroics at the buzzer.
- Xavier Rhodes chipped in eight points and a season-best five steals to go with six helpers and five rebounds.
- The contest was a back-and-forth affair that saw six lead changes and seven times the game was tied.
