Volleyball picks up fifth straight win after putting away Penguins in five

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky volleyball program earned their fifth consecutive victory after putting away the Penguins of Youngstown State Tuesday evening inside Regents Hall.

MATCH NOTES
  • Joy Banks posted yet another outstanding match with 19 kills during the evening on 43 total swings for a hitting percentage of .233 overall. Banks added 12 digs to her stat sheet to increase her double-double total up to nine this season. She also provided four block assists and one service ace to round out her game. 
  • Abby Kanakry helped fuel the Norse offensive attack yet again, tying a match-high in kills with Banks at 19 on the night. Kanakry tallied three block assists to her impressive career total against the Penguins and added a hitting percentage of .333 on 45 total attempts. 
    • She currently sits in second all-time in Northern Kentucky Volleyball in career block assists with 326, trailing the all-time leader Jessica Buroker at 338.
    • Kanakry passes Shelby Buschur in career kills to be ranked 15th overall in a Norse uniform as the graduate senior now sits at 1,214 total kills, passing Buschur at 1,206.
  • Anna Burke led NKU with 21 digs on the night, a match-high for the graduate senior. Burke has now recorded 20 or more digs in 12 matches during the 2023 campaign and puts her career-total up to 1,598 as well. 
  • Allie Siefke tied her career-high in total blocks in this contest after denying the Penguins 8.0 times to help anchor the NKU defensive front.

The Northern Kentucky volleyball program is back on the road to continue Horizon League action this weekend, traveling north to Rochester, Michigan on Friday, October 27. NKU will meet the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland inside the OU Credit Union O'rena Friday evening with first serve slated for 6 p.m. (ET).
