Norse Baseball Advances in #HLBASE Tournament With Win Over PFW

DAYTON, Ohio – The No. 3 seeded Northern Kentucky baseball program advanced in the 2023 Horizon League Tournament with a victory over No. 6 seeded Purdue Fort Wayne Wednesday afternoon. The Norse downed the Mastodons in an elimination game by final score of 6-3 from Nischwitz Stadium.

FINAL SCORE: No. 3 Northern Kentucky – 6, No. 6 Purdue Fort Wayne – 3

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Bottom 1st: McFadden-Ackman grounds out to the right side of the field bringing home Cleary Simpson
  • Top 3rd: PFW ties up the game with a sacrifice fly out to right field, scoring the runner from third base
  • Bottom 4th: Odom smacks a double to right field to score both Nick Wimmers and Colton Kucera
  • Bottom 4th: Schenider grounds out to the shortstop which brings home Treyvin Moss
  • Top 5th: Mastodon single to right field to score the runner from third base
  • Top 8th: PFW with a ground-rule double to scores a runner, NKU leads 4-3
  • Bottom 8th: Moss grounds out to the pitcher with a sacrifice bunt to score Ryan Kilpatrick
  • Bottom 8th: Odom caps off the Norse scoring with yet another double to bring home Wimmers, NKU leads 6-3

NORSE NOTES
  • McFadden-Ackman added another RBI to his already impressive season total as the All-League first baseman is up to 67 on the year. Liam is now just five RBI away from tying the Northern Kentucky single-season record previously set by Steve Walton in 2002 at 72.
  • Devenport added another save to his season total, leading the Norse now with five on the year. Logen is just one save away from entering the top 10 in Norse Baseball history for single-season saves as well.  
  • The Norse have totaled 30 wins on the season now, which is a NKU Baseball program record for most victories in the NCAA Division I era dating back to 2017 (25-33).

Northern Kentucky Baseball will now face No. 2 seeded Oakland University in the next round of action in the 2023 Horizon League Tournament from Dayton, Ohio at Nischwitz Stadium. The Norse and Golden Grizzlies will meet in game number two of the day from the canpus of Wright State, with first pitch scheduled for a 3:00 PM (ET) start and is set to be broadcasted on ESPN+.
