HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball program will welcome Akron to Highland Heights as the Norse and Zips are set for a non-conference showdown on Saturday, December 9 inside Truist Arena.
The meeting will be the fifth matchup all-time between the two programs in school history and the first since NKU joined the NCAA Division I ranks. The Norse are 4-0 against the Zips all-time, with the last contest between the two squads taking place back on Feb. 15, 1979 (an 84-77 NKU victory).
Northern Kentucky is fresh off a Horizon League Championship and the program's fourth bid to the NCAA Tournament in the past seven years after the Norse posted a 22-13 record overall in 2022-23. To go with the return of NKU's big three in
Marques Warrick,
Sam Vinson and
Trey Robinson, the Norse went out and added a plethora of talent in both the transfer portal and from the high school ranks for a squad that will be one of the favorites in the Horizon once again this upcoming season.
Akron, the 2021-22 Mid-American Conference Champion and NCAA Tournament team, is coming off a 22-11 campaign last season that included a run to the MAC Semifinals.
