Women’s Soccer draws with former GLVC rival Bellarmine in exciting Sunday match

LOUISVILLE – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer program played to an exciting 3-3 draw against former Great Lakes Valley Conference and now NCAA Division I rival Bellarmine in a non-conference match inside Frazier Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

INSIDE THE NORSE BOX SCORE
- Freshman Kylie Anderson was the driving force in NKU's thrilling draw. With the Norse down 3-1 late in the match, the St. Louis, Missouri native scored twice in four minutes in the 73rd and 77th-minute to help Northern Kentucky post the draw.
- Emilie Doersching scored the first goal for the Norse in 2023 and she did it in highlight reel fashion in the 24th-minute. It was the third goal of the sophomore's career. Doersching finished the game with two shots on target.
- As a team, Northern Kentucky posted 20 shots in total with 14 of those hitting the net. The Norse also held a large edge in corner kicks with a 10-2 advantage, seven of which came in the second half.
- Seven different NKU student-athletes recorded a shot on target. The Norse were led by Anderson and Natalie Newman who both posted three shots on goal, respectively.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Doersching posted an absolute highlight reel goal for NKU's first tally of the season in the 24th-minute to give the Norse a 1-0 edge.
- Bellarmine answered right back in the 37th with a deep strike of their own to tie the match at 1-1.
- The Knights struck again in the 56th and 66th to push their advantage to 3-1.
- There was no quit in the Norse as Anderson tied the game in the 73rd off a set piece from Shipley to make it a 3-2 contest.
- The freshman struck again in the 77th as Anderson buried a rebound off an initial shot by Newman to tie the match at 3-3.
- Over the final three minutes NKU put more four shots on net and blasted one last chance with 14 seconds left that just missed the target as the Norse and Knights concluded their exciting 3-3 draw.


NEXT UP
The Norse return home to host Miami (OH) in another non-conference clash set for Thursday, August 24 inside NKU Soccer Stadium. The match will be part of a doubleheader with the Norse men's soccer program and gets underway at 7:30 PM ET. The contests will also feature a limited edition NKU Bucket Hat giveaway for fans in attendance.
