HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer program, behind the first collegiate goal off the foot of
Natalie Newman, blanked visiting Miami (OH) 1-0 in a non-conference battle at NKU Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.
With the victory, Northern Kentucky improved to 1-1-1 on the year, with a big test set at Louisville on Sunday.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Newman scored her first goal of the season and the first of her collegiate career as the freshman from Kewaskum, Wisconsin found the back of the net just eight minutes into the contest.

Erykah Cornett and
Kylie Anderson each picked up an assist on Newman's goal, respectively.

Mickayla Kowalski posted two saves in her first clean sheet of the year. It was also the third shutout of the senior's career.
- NKU put more shots on target (5 to 2) and more at the net overall (9 to 5) than their counterparts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After an exciting three goals on Sunday against Bellarmine, the Norse got out of the gate fast as Newman buried her scoring chance for the Norse to take a 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the match.
- NKU had one more chance in the 42nd-minute as
Maria Wiefering sent a shot towards the bottom center of the net which was turned aside by the RedHawks as the two teams headed into halftime with the Norse up 1-0.
- The two squads came out of the half and played an even 45 minutes to close out the contest.
- Northern Kentucky started out the half with two shots in the first 20 minutes and then the Norse withstood a burst from Miami (OH).
- The tide turned back towards the Norse at the end of the half as NKU controlled play for the final 15 minutes.
- Even with the limited possession time, the Redhawks did put a final chance on net in the 83rd-minute that Kowalski turned aside.
- NKU turned back up the pressure after the Miami (OH) opportunity and just missed on another goal as
Sofia Wilmes's great chance in the 86th-minute hit off the crossbar.
- With the strong finish in possession, the Norse closed out the 1-0 victory.
