Norse Volleyball topped by No. 14 Buckeyes in front of sold-out crowd

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's volleyball program kicked off the 2023 season takin on nationally-ranked powerhouse Ohio State inside the newly renovated Regents Hall in front of a sellout crowd Friday evening from Highland Heights.

MATCH NOTES
- Tonight's capacity crowd marked the first sellout in Regents Hall during the Northern Kentucky NCAA Division I era, as Norse Nation packed the house to watch NKU take on the nationally ranked Ohio State Buckeyes. 
- The recent renovations of Regents Hall saw national coverage throughout the night as well as this match was broadcasted on both Bally Sports and ESPN+ which saw the contest reaching over 7,000,000 households Friday evening. 
- The NKU offense went through Joy Banks tonight as the junior totaled 14 kills to lead the Norse. Banks went on to hit .394 overall as well on 33 total attempts and only made one single error against the Buckeyes. She chipped in six digs, one block assist and posted 14.5 points to complete the stat line as well.
- Torie Houston led the Norse with 15 assists on the night, with Katy Yopko adding 10 of her own also. 
Skyy Smith led the Norse at the net with six blocks against OSU and she additionally led NKU in service aces with two on the night. Smith posted four kills and 9.5 points to round out the evening. 
- Defensively Northern Kentucky was anchored on the ground by libero Anna Burke with 12 digs in the match tonight. Burke addded five assists and one service ace as well against Ohio State.

Northern Kentucky is right back at it tomorrow, Saturday, August 26 as the Norse continue the 2023 Groen Family McDonald's NKU Invitational presented by Comfort Inn & Suites - Wilder. NKU will meet the Buccaneers of East Tennessee State inside Regents Hall tomorrow with first serve slated for 5 p.m. (ET).
