Women’s Soccer battles to hard-fought draw vs. IUPUI in Horizon League opener

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer program battled to a hard-fought 1-1 draw with visiting IUPUI in both team's Horizon League opening game at NKU Soccer Stadium on Thursday night.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Norse struck first 17 minutes into the first half as Megan Molner scored the first goal of her collegiate career. The freshman from St. Louis, Missouri took advantage of an IUPUI mishandled ball, made a move at the goal line, and buried her opportunity into the far corner of the net as NKU jumped out ahead 1-0. - IUPUI answered back in the 24th minute as the Jaguars converted on a breakaway chance to make it a 1-1 match.
- The two sides entered the locker room tied 1-1 at the half.
- Both sides were able to create chances in the second half, but neither team could find the back of the net as the contest ended in a 1-1 draw.
- IUPUI held a slight edge in both shots (12 to 9) and shots on goal (5 to 4).
- The Norse however won the corner kick battle by an 8-1 margin.
- Molner (two), Sofia Wilmes (one) and Shay Shipley (one) all recorded shots on target for NKU.
- Mickayla Kowalski finished with four saves between the pipes.
- The Norse are still on their best unbeaten streak since the 2021 campaign as the squad has gone 3-0-4 over their past seven contests.
- The evening also featured NKU's Pups at the Pitch Night presented by PetSuites. The celebration was a success as the Norse played in front of their largest crowd so far this season.
NEXT UP
The Norse will head to Youngstown, Ohio for a Horizon League clash against the Penguins on Sunday, September 17 from Farmers National Bank Field. Kick is set for 1 PM ET and the match will be streamed in front of a national audience on ESPN+.
