YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer program went on a spirited second-half comeback attempt, but in the end the Norse just ran out of time as Youngstown State escaped with a 2-1 win in a Horizon League clash at Farmers National Bank Field on Sunday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Youngstown State got on the board early in this one as the Penguins took a 1-0 lead in the 16th-minute of the contest. It would be the only tally of the opening half for either side.
- Northern Kentucky put 10 shots at the net in the first 45 minutes and three of them hit the target but the Norse were unable to put anything on the score board in the opening period.
- The Penguins struck again right out of the half as they put another one in at the 48th-minute to make it a 2-0 match.
- NKU fought right back as
Lydia Self converted her penalty kick chance in the 56th-minute to make it a 2-1 contest. It was the first goal of the season for the junior and the seventh of her NKU career.
- Over the final 34 minutes, Northern Kentucky put six shots at the net, had three of its chances hit the target, and forced three corners, but the Norse couldn't put another one across the line as Youngstown State escaped with the win.
- Overall, NKU led the match in total shots (17 to 9), shots on target (7 to 3) and corners (6 to 2). It was the second-most shots recorded by the Norse in a match so far this year.
- Self led the Norse with two shots on frame.

Emilie Doersching all added a shot on target for NKU.

Mickayla Kowalski finished with a lone save in between the pipes for the Norse.
- It was the first defeat for NKU since a 1-0 loss to Western Michigan in the season opener all the way back on August 17.

The Norse will remain on the road and are set for another Horizon League clash as NKU heads to Oakland to take on the Golden Grizzlies on Thursday, September 21. Kick is set for 5:30 PM ET from Oakland Soccer Field and the match will be
