YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Northern Kentucky volleyball program began conference play on the right foot Tuesday night, picking up a road victory over the Penguins of Youngstown State in four sets inside the Beeghly Center.

Joy Banks has been on fire of late, as the junior followed up a career-performance with yet another in the 2023 opening Horizon League match. Banks finished the night totaling 21 kills, a new career-high for her as she dominated the court after taking 56 swings for NKU. She also provided a team-high 19 digs to record her fourth double-double of the year as well.

Katy Yopko joined Banks in the double-double club tonight, totaling 25 assists with 17 digs in the victory over the Penguins. This was her second double-double of the season and a new career-high in digs for the senior setter.

Anna Burke helped cover the ground defensively for Northern Kentucky this evening, totaling a team-high 19 digs with Banks.

Skyy Smith continues to lead the Norse defensive front at the net as she chipped in a match-high eight blocks to help stop the Youngstown offense. Smith's eight blocks tied her season-high tonight and was just one shy of matching her career-high of nine as well. Smith overall added seven kills, five digs and three service aces to round out her stat sheet.

Northern Kentucky volleyball continues to be road warriors once again this weekend as the Norse will make the trip to arch rival Wright State this Saturday, September 23. NKU will meet the Raiders inside the C.J. McLin Gymnasium at 4 p.m. (ET) in Dayton, Ohio to continue Horizon League action. This match will also be broadcasted on
