HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball program was picked to win the Horizon League and was ranked as the No. 11 mid-major team in the country by The Almanac, the Field of 68's annual publication.
 
In addition to the team ranking, a pair of Northern Kentucky student-athletes received individual recognition from The Almanac. Senior guard Marques Warrick was named a preseason All-Conference First Team selection and the No. 12 Mid-Major student-athlete in college basketball while junior standout Sam Vinson was chosen as the preseason Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year to go with a nod to the preseason All-Conference Second Team.
 
"The goal is to make the NCAA Tournament, and to do that, you have to win three games in March in the conference tournament," head coach Darrin Horn told Matt Cox of The Almanac. "We embrace that. We also remember it was a two-possession game coming out of the last media timeout against Houston (in the NCAA Tournament). That makes you think about what you might be capable of."
 
The early season love for the Norse didn't stop there as Northern Kentucky retuning a dynamite backcourt for a repeat run in 2023-24 was named the No. 1 storyline in the Horizon by the publication. The Almanac also ran an anonymous Coaches Poll in the conference where Marques Warrick was named the student-athlete that scared opposing coaches the most and Northern Kentucky was also named the hardest team to prepare for in the Horizon.
 
The Norse will get their highly anticipated 2023-24 campaign underway with a trip out to Middle Tennessee on Monday, November 6. Northern Kentucky will host its home opener on Tuesday, November 14 against DePauw inside Truist Arena.
