INDIANAPOLIS – Northern Kentucky University men's soccer goalkeeper
Nic Lemen was named the Horizon League Under Armour Defensive Player of the Week for the first time in his Norse career as was announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
"Nic is getting better and better each week since coming into preseason healthy," said head men's soccer coach
Tom Poitras. "His consistency in training is starting to show in his performances. We are just starting to see the quality he is capable of, and we all know he has much more he can do to help our team."
Lemen, a sophomore from Cincinnati, Ohio, helped anchor the Norse Monday evening against in-state rival Bellarmine. This non-conference matchup saw NKU and the Knights finish in a 0-0 draw for the first shutout of the 2023 season for the Norse.
The Northern Kentucky goalkeeper went on to record a season-high four saves in the contest and increased his overall shutout time to 160:00 minutes dating back to last week's Florida Gulf Coast match. Lemen currently leads the Horizon League in goals against average at .400 with just one goal allowed this season.
Additionally, he leads the conference in overall save percentage at .909 and ranks fourth in saves per game at 3.33 overall.
NKU men's soccer is back at it next on Saturday, September 9 as the Norse will return home to Highland Heights, Kentucky to open Horizon League play with Robert Morris University. NKU and the Colonels will meet inside NKU Soccer Stadium to kick off conference action with a match scheduled for 7 p.m. (ET). This contest will also be streamed in front of a national audience on
ESPN+.
