Men’s Basketball gets back to winning ways with hard-fought victory at Detroit

DETROIT – The Northern Kentucky men's basketball program got back to its winning ways with a hard fought 81-76 victory against Horizon League foe Detroit Mercy in a conference clash inside Calihan Hall on Saturday afternoon.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- LJ Wells and Trey Robinson led the way with 20 points apiece. Wells added five rebounds, three steals and an assist while Robinson chipped in three boards and a helper. The two combined to shoot a blistering 16-of-22 from the field (72.7 percent). - Both Wells and Robinson continued their hot stretch of play. Wells has now set his season-best in points in back-to-back games with an average of 17 points over his last two contests. He also tied his career-best with today's 20-point performance and set a career-high with nine made field goals. Robinson has gone for double-digit points in three straight games. He has averaged 14.3 points and 6.3 rebounds over those three contests and also set a career-best this afternoon with his 20-point outing. - Marques Warrick had a record-setting day as he continued his climb up the NKU career scoring leader board. With his 16 points, Warrick moved ahead of Richard Derkson (1,927 career points ) and Dan Doellman (1,920 points) for fourth all-time in school history with 1,930 career points. He needs just 51 points to move into third, 78 to take second and 137 to overtake Drew McDonald for most all-time in program history.
- Keeyan Itejere had another solid game on both ends of the court as he chipped in 14 points (off 6-of-8 from the field), five boards, two blocks, a swipe and an assist. The standout transfer has averaged 14 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 2.3 rejections over his last four games.
- Michael Bradley had another strong game running the point as he finished with seven points, six assists and six boards.
- Northern Kentucky hit at a 31-of-58 clip from the field (53.4 percent).
- The Norse also finished with 44 points in the paint.
- It was a back-and-forth affair between Northern Kentucky and Detroit as the conference clash featured seven lead changes and 10 times the contest was tied.
