DETROIT, Mich. — Northern Kentucky women's soccer has been on a roll as of late, and came into Sunday's showdown with Detroit Mercy with an opportunity to move into second place in the Horizon League with a victory.
The Norse did just that, winning their fourth straight match and sixth of their last seven in a 2-1 victory over the Titans. With the win, the Norse clinched a berth in the Horizon League tournament and moved into second place in the conference, one spot behind Milwaukee.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Northern Kentucky held the advantage in shots 10-8, while Detroit held a 4-3 advantage in shots on goal.
- Megan Gessner made three saves in the win.
- Lilly Yordy's goal marked her third this week after scoring a pair vs. Oakland on Thursday.
- Lydia Self now has four goals this season, tied for second on the team.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northern Kentucky wasted bo time in taking an early lead, as Lilly Yordy found herself in the right place at the right time to score her third goal of the week and fifth of the season to put NKU up 1-0.
- Yordy provided the service on NKU's second goal, firing in a cross off a corner kick that found the head of Lydia Self for a 2-0 NKU lead.
- Detroit Mercy found the back of the net just 15 seconds later.
- NKU held on to win the match, thanks in part to a huge save off a free kick by Megan Gessner in the 87th minute.
