Baseball falls in Power Five showdown with Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky baseball program put up a hard effort but in the end it wasn't enough as the Norse fell to B1G Ten Indiana by a 11-5 margin at Kaufman Field on Wednesday evening.

FINAL SCORE: Northern Kentucky – 5, Indiana – 11 (9 innings)

RECORDS: NKU 4-8 (0-0 HL), IU 8-4 (0-0 B1G)
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Zacarias Salinas stepped into the starting lineup and went 1-for-3 at the plate with two RBI.
- Liam McFadden-Ackman went 1-for-5 with a RBI.
- John Odom and Jake Altman added NKU's other RBI on the day.
- Cleary Simpson has continued his insane start to the year with another 2-for-3 outing to go with a run scored and two walks.
- Mitch Wood also continues to swing a hot bat with a 1-for-4 performance that included a run scored and a base on balls.
- Logen Devenport added a run with a 2-for-5 showing and a run scored.
- Zack Minton and Treyvin Moss also came around to score for the Norse.
- Matthew Lopez threw 1.2 scoreless innings to go with a punch out.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Indiana got out of the gates fast with a five-run bottom of the first to take a 5-0 lead.
- NKU did respond right back however with a run of their own in the top of the second to make it 5-1.
- The Hoosiers extended their advantage to 7-1 with two more runs in the bottom of the third.
- Once again, the Norse answered right back to cut Indiana's lead to 7-3 in the top of the fourth.
- The Hoosiers got two more insurances run in the bottom of the fifth to push their edge to 9-3.
- NKU tried to make a move with two runs in the top of the sixth, but that is all they could get as Indiana added two more in the bottom of the eighth to close out the 11-5 victory.
 
NEXT UP 
The Norse return home for a non-conference clash with Western Illinois with a weekend series that begins on Friday, March 9 at the Bill Aker Baseball Complex. First pitch to the contest is set for 2 PM ET and admission is free of charge. Be sure to keep it locked on the team's socials for any game changes due to inclement weather.
