Baseball bounces right back with run-rule victory at PFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – The Northern Kentucky baseball team bounced back with a huge 12-2, run-rule victory over Purdue Fort Wayne at Mastodon Field on Sunday afternoon.
 
The Norse offense exploded for 12 runs off 12 hits to go with three home runs, two doubles and eight walks.
 
With the win, Northern Kentucky sits first overall in the Horizon League at 10-2 in conference play. NKU leads the Horizon by two games with an important series with second-place Wright State on the horizon this weekend.
 
It is also the fastest the Norse have reached 20 wins in NKU's NCAA Division I era, a feat they have accomplished three times overall since Northern Kentucky joined the NCAA DI ranks.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Seven different Norse student-athletes drove in runs in the win.
- Six different NKU student-athletes also came around to score in the contest.
- Liam McFadden-Ackman, John Odom and Brennan Rowe combined to power the Norse offense with a homerun apiece, respectively.
- McFadden-Ackman went 1-for-2 with three RBI, two runs scored and three walks.
- Odom added a 3-for-5 outing with two RBI and two runs.
- Rowe finished 1-for-3 at the dish with a RBI, two runs scored and one base on balls.
- Cleary Simpson also continued his stellar start to the season with a 2-for-3 performance that featured one RBI, two runs, one steal and a walk.
- Treyvin Moss put a cherry on top of his standout weekend with a 2-for-5 game with a RBI and two runs scored.
- Tyler Shaneyfelt chipped in a 1-for-4 day with one RBI, two runs scored, one stolen base and a base on balls.
- Logen Devenport added two more RBI off a perfect 1-for-1 contest.
- Jake Johnson recorded his first win of the season on the mound as he threw four scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts and just two hits allowed.
- Aaron Massie also posted a scoreless inning in relief.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Purdue Fort Wayne struck first with a run in both the bottom of the first and third to make it a 2-0 game.
- It was all Northern Kentucky from that point on as the Norse punched back with five runs in the top of the fourth, one in the fifth, four more in the sixth and another two in the eighth to give NKU a 12-2 lead.
- The Mastodons couldn't answer the bell as Northern Kentucky finished the game with five scoreless innings on defense to seal the run-rule victory.

The Norse remain on the road for a non-conference, mid-week battle versus Ohio on Tuesday, April 9. First pitch is set for 6 PM ET.
