KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer program suffered a setback in its season opener as host Western Michigan shut out the Norse by a 3-0 margin in a non-conference clash inside the WMU Soccer Complex on Thursday evening.

Tristen Cross posted a game-high nine saves in her first career start with the Norse.

Megan Gessner also saw action between the pipes and recorded two saves and no goals against over 20 minutes of action.
- NKU racked up 11 saves as a unit, which tied for the Horizon League lead in team saves on the first night of action in NCAA Division I women's soccer.

- Western Michigan finished with a heavy edge in shots (31 to 10), shots on goals (14-6) and corner kicks (6 to 1).
- The Norse had 22 student-athletes enter the pitch in total as the vast majority of the roster saw action in the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Western Michigan got the scoring started with a tally in the 26
th minute to jump out to a 1-0 advantage.
- After 45 minutes of play, the Broncos held on to take their 1-0 edge into the half.
- Western Michigan continued to turn it on and put the game away with a goal in both the 51
st and 64
th minute to seal the 3-0 victory.
