HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Northern Kentucky women's soccer program continued its hardest start to season in recent memory as the Norse battled in-state foe Louisville down to the wire at the NKU Soccer Stadium on Sunday evening.
Despite the strong effort, NKU found itself on the wrong side of a 2-1 decision to the Cardinals.

Shay Shipley scored the first goal of her career as a free kick attempt found the back of the net late in the second half. It was the standout midfielder's first tally in 29 games played.

Donna Bundy posted a scoreless second half between the pipes. She didn't allow a single goal over 45 minutes of play and recorded one save in her second career contest.
- Nearly 500 fans took in the in-state battle with an announced attendance of 473. When you take out the record-breaking season opener, it was the highest attendance at a match since the Norse hosted the Cardinals back on August 28, 2022.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Louisville got on the board first with a goal in the 17th minute to jump out to a 1-0 lead.
- The Cardinals added to their advantage with another tally in the 33rd minute to make it a 2-0 game at the half.
- The Norse fought back in the second half and finally broke through with their first goal of the year as a
Shay Shipley free kick found the back of the net in the 72nd minute to put NKU right back in the contest at 2-1.
- Despite the strong effort, it was just a little bit too late as Louisville escaped with the 2-1 non-conference victory.
